Frequently Asked Questions
-
A dietitian is a university-qualified health professional who provides evidence-based nutrition advice to support health, prevent disease, and manage medical conditions. Dietitians use the latest scientific research to help individuals achieve their nutrition and health goals.
-
In Australia, dietitians are qualified health professionals who have completed accredited university training and meet strict professional standards. While some nutritionists have formal training, the title "dietitian" provides assurance that you are receiving nutrition advice from a recognised healthcare professional.
-
Dietitians provide evidence-based nutrition advice to help improve health, manage medical conditions, and support long-term lifestyle changes. Whether you have a specific health concern or simply want to feel your best, a dietitian can help you cut through the confusion and develop a practical approach to eating that works for you.

-
No. You can make an appointment directly with Clarity Dietetics without a referral.
However, if you wish to access Medicare rebates or DVA-funded services, you will need an appropriate referral from your GP.
-
Your initial consultation is a comprehensive nutrition and lifestyle assessment where we'll discuss:
Your medical history
Current eating habits
Lifestyle factors
Medications and supplements
Health concerns
Nutrition goals
Together, we'll develop a practical, personalised plan that fits your lifestyle and supports your health goals.
-
To help make the most of your initial consultation, it can be helpful to bring any information that may be relevant to your health and nutrition goals. This might include:
Referral paperwork (if you are attending under Medicare, DVA, Workers Compensation, or another funding arrangement). A referral referral is not necessary if you are attending as a private patient
A list of any medications or supplements you are currently taking
Recent blood test results or medical reports (if available)
Details of any medical conditions or diagnoses
Information about any food allergies or intolerances
DEXA body composition scan results (if this has been done)
A food diary or record of your usual eating habits, if you have one (however, this is not necessary as your dietitian will ask you about your usual eating habits in the session)
Don't worry if you don't have all of these documents. The most important thing is to come prepared to discuss your health concerns, lifestyle, and goals. Your dietitian will guide the conversation and gather the information needed to develop a personalised nutrition plan.
-
Initial Consultation: 60 minutes
Review Consultations:
Standard review: 30 minutes
Extended review: 45 minutes (recommended for more complex conditions or clients who require additional support)
-
The frequency of appointments will depend on your individual health goals, medical conditions, and the level of support you require. Achieving meaningful and lasting changes to nutrition habits often takes time, guidance, and ongoing support.
In our experience, most clients benefit from a series of appointments rather than a one-off consultation. Follow-up sessions provide an opportunity to review progress, address challenges, build on previous strategies, and make adjustments as your needs change. Ongoing support can be particularly valuable for managing chronic health conditions, improving eating habits, and achieving long-term health goals.
During your initial consultation, your dietitian will work with you to develop a personalised plan, including recommendations on how often follow-up appointments may be helpful. This plan will be tailored to your goals, preferences, and circumstances and can be adjusted over time as you progress.
-
Nutrition advice is tailored to your individual needs, health conditions, and goals.
Depending on your circumstances, this may include:
Meal planning guidance
Meal and snack ideas
Portion recommendations
Practical nutrition strategies
Recipes and resources
Education to build confidence around food choices
Rather than providing a one-size-fits-all approach, we focus on creating sustainable habits that work for your lifestyle.
